Wet carpets become a breeding ground for bacteria, and must be dried immediately to avoid permanent carpet damage.

The fan inside a carpet dryer moves air through it at very high speeds. This gives the air molecules lots of energy, which they are eager to be rid of--so they pass the energy on to the moisture in the carpet. The water then evaporates when it takes on this energy, and the carpet dries progressively and evenly. A carpet dryer works remarkably quickly, too, and can dry a medium-sized room overnight.

The fan dries not only the carpet, but the underlay and the timber or concrete flooring substrate as well.
